New Alchemy Studio
Pillar III

Science & Information Theory — the source code of civilization.

Before the model and before the chip, there is a paper. Beneath every paper is a measurement, and beneath every measurement is the mathematics of how meaning is encoded and moved. Science is where the operating constraints of the next decade are quietly being written.

New Alchemy Studio reads widely across the sciences — and reads information theory as the thread that stitches them to AI, quantum, and the printed word. The upstream constraint is almost never where the headline points.

What we read

Space and astronomy. Biology and medicine. Physics and chemistry. Earth, climate, and the energy transition. The frontier of technology and engineering. Two stories per section in the briefing, each with a Why-It-Matters that ties the discovery back to something a working operator should be watching.

We also read further upstream than most: the foundational work of Shannon, Wheeler, Turing, and the information theorists whose ideas now underwrite both AI and quantum. The studio treats these as living texts, not historical curios.

Why information theory

Because that is where the four pillars meet on a single page. Every claim about what a model can know, what a quantum system can measure, and what a book can transmit eventually reduces to the same set of questions: how is information encoded, how is it transmitted, how is it verified, and how is it lost.

When a paper rewrites one of those answers, it quietly reroutes the other three pillars. We want it in front of you while it is still upstream — not later, when the change has already shown up in someone's product.

How we cover it

Quantum Science Brief publishes Tuesday and Friday — ten stories per edition, deeply researched, structured into five sections. Quantum Learn 3 goes broader still: four rotating topics drawn from philosophy, history, mathematics, linguistics, mythology, music theory and more, plus one obscure gem per day chosen for surprise.

Read either one for a week and you will feel the studio's editorial range — and the conviction that intelligence is not confined to any one discipline.
